CAPE TOWN WORLD CINEMA FESTIVAL GALA AWARDS

Forgiveness,a South African story about a killer on a quest for absolution, was named Best African Feature.
The Signis Jury, which judges movies on their ethical contribution to cinema, honoured two South African films, Forgiveness and Yesterday.

• Forgiveness one of 25 films from around the world in official competition.
• The Forgiveness contingent at the Durban Festival included producers Cindy Gabriel, Jeremy Nathan, Joel Phiri and director Ian Gabriel.
• Forgiveness won three awards:
Audience Award
Best South African Film
Best Cinematography
• Forgiveness lighting cameraman Guilio Bicarri accepted the Best Cinematography Award on behalf of the crew and cast of Forgiveness  
  
57th Locarno International Film Festival 2004
August


• 18 films in official competion.
• Forgiveness the first official entry for South Africa.
• In a letter from the festival Committee, Deputy Director Teresa Cavina said Forgiveness was invited into the competion “for its incredible story telling and attention to detail and a blessed hand in the directing of actors and control of cinematography”.
• The European premier of Forgiveness at Locarno was attended by a South African party that included South African Ambassador in Geneva Nozipho January-Bardill, Forgiveness actress Denise Newman, Fortissimo Films sales agent Esther Bannenberg, Director Ian Gabriel and producers Jeremy Nathan and Cindy Gabriel.
• Forgiveness awards at Locarno were accepted on behalf of the filmmakers by the South African Ambassdor Ms Nozipho January-Bardill “on behalf of the filmmakers and on behalf of all South Africans helping to build a culture of human rights in our country”.
• South African Ambassador Ms Nozipho January-Bardill receives the Best Film Accolades for Forgiveness on behalf of the Locarno Film Festival Youth Jury.

Zimbabwe Film Festival Official Competition Sept 1 – Sept 8

• Executive producers Joel Phiri and Jeremy Nathan attended the Zimbabwe premiere of Forgiveness in Harare.
• Best supporting actress Denise Newman won special mention award

Toronto International Film Festival 2004
9th September – 18th September


• Forgiveness has been invited to participate in the Toronto festival.
• Forgiveness screening dates are Sat 11th at 21h00 and Tues 14th at 14h30.
• Forgiveness has been invited to play in the South African 10 years of Democracy side-bar at Toronto.
• Forgiveness lead actor Arnold Vosloo will attend the screening in Toronto as well as South African actress Quanita Adams with the Director and Producer and the Fortissimo Films sales team.

Vancouver International Film Festival 2004
23rd September – 8th October


• Forgiveness officially invited to Vancouver ,Canada

• Forgiveness was awarded the AGF people's choice award for the most popular international film.

• It was listed in the top ten most popular films and was seen by 150 000 people.

• Forgiveness was one of 247 films at the festival. It has been officially selected for the Rotterdam International festival.

Pusan Film Festival 2004
7th October – 15th October


• Forgiveness officially invited to the premier Asian film festival in Pusan in South Korea.

Rio International Film Festival 2004

• Forgiveness officially invited to the festival.
